Background

Engineers play an important role in pushing the boundaries of applied science and solving technical problems. This allows different real life sectors to reach newer heights. It’s usually at the forefront of new ideas and helps shape society’s future. The scope of engineering has also claimed to be a successful career option in Nepal like in other countries.

There are many universities in Nepal offering the courses regarding engineering field. Some are Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu University, Pokhara University, Purwanchal University, and so on. Among them, Tribhuwan University stands as the oldest, yet most renowned one in the context of Nepal. There are many government and private colleges Engineering is the one and only community based engineering college in Nepal. Being a community based college, it has thrived to provide quality education at very affordable prices, for every economical ground.

Location

Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE), undertaken by Bhaktapur Municipality itself,  is centrally located at culturally rich city Bhaktapur. The college aims to blend both traditional as well as modern methodologies together to produce skilled and qualified engineers. The college’s main goal is to offer high-quality engineering education to students from all economic backgrounds. They also aim to enhance traditional knowledge and technologies. The college promote a strong sense of collaboration among the faculty and students.

Available seats

The establishment of this college was not an easy process. It took almost five years for this college to get affiliation from T.U. Firstly, Khwopa Engineering College established itself with the affiliation of PU. But after several disapprovals from Nepal Government, it managed to hold its position among colleges affiliated to TU. Also renowned itself as one of the best colleges for engineering in Nepal. It only provided courses for Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering. But currently, it has allowed enrollment for 96 seats in Civil Engineering, 48 seats in Electrical Engineering and and 48 seats in Computer Engineering every year. 

Khwopa College of Engineering (KhCE) follows specific admission requirements and quota systems for the selection of students. Students must pass the entrance examination conducted by the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University to get the admission. Additionally, they must have completed I.Sc. or +2 (Science) or Diploma in Engineering (3 Years) or equivalent. Also with a minimum of 45% full marks. Students who meet these criteria can fill the online application form to apply for admission. Regarding merit criteria, the college management prepares the merit list of applicants based on their ranks in the IOE entrance examination. KhCE has allocated quotas for different categories, including Bhaktapur Municipality, Bhaktapur District, Remote Area, and General categories. The allocated quota system allocates 25% for Bhaktapur Municipality, 20% for Bhaktapur district, 5% for remote areas, and 50% for the General Category.

Conclusion

KhCE gives affordable and high-quality engineering education. It also provides different facilities and services to support the overall growth and development of its students. Also provides well equipped laboratories, well-stocked library, multipurpose halls and hygienic cafeteria. It also encourages students for participating in sports by conducting Summer Sports Week and Winter Sport Week twice a year. It also motivates to participate in productive academic activities such as education fairs, research conferences, and hackathons.
