Zepotha: The Cast of This Gen-Z Horror Movie

Introduction to Zepotha

Zepotha can be just the spooky choice for a cousin’s sleepover night or the perfect prank action for your friends. But, how often, after we have completed a horror movie, do we wish that everything we saw was just an illusion? The haunting image of the ghost behind the mirror is just a phantom scare. And the soul-stirring scream you hear is just a background in the music you play. “What if someone told you that Gen-Z’s newest creation is quite literally a dream, a made-up fake illusion of your horror movie dreams?”

The Background 

Before diving into this craziness, let’s evaluate the start of the Gen-Z fire!! It all started when a  TikTok user emilyjeffri posted a video(now removed) with the caption: “ok so new bit idea: what if we created a fake 80s horror movie called ‘Zepotha’ and started commenting ‘OMG u look exactly like that one girl from Zepotha’ or ‘wait u look exactly like ______ from Zepotha’”. Jeffri then went on to say that “Together, we will witness new lore develop, main characters will emerge, etc. & we can convince thousands of people that this weirdly titled ’80s horror film actually exists,” 

Hereon, the fire had ignited. And the whole of the crowd went crazy by commenting on the above-specified quote in multiple videos.TikTok added fuel to the fire by creating a filter to find out which character of Zepotha you really are. The spread of the fire fueled people to create countless montages of the Zepotha and its “characters”. 

Additionally, popular creator Hayley Kalil even “launched” a trailer to further add to the ongoing fiasco.https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=zepotha+trailer

The Ensemble Cast of Zepotha

According to a fanmade wiki fan page, https://zepotha.fandom.com/wiki/Zepotha_Wiki We get an insight into all the characters of Zepotha and the fanmade cast. There allegedly seems to be a bunch of protagonists in this illusion. Some namely are:-

  • Danny

He is the antagonist of the movie as described by the fan page. Danny is also a master manipulator who further drives the plot of the movie. Actor Andrew McCarthy “plays” this character.

  • Maxine 

As described by the fan page, she is an edgy teen who happens to have a positive character arc in the plot as she becomes the standout of the story. The loving Winona Ryder “plays” this character.

He is the intoxicated romantic pairing for our antagonist Danny as described by the fan page.

  • Lydia

Lydia is what people mostly refer to as the ‘Goth Chick” who is the mean side character dealing with her traumatic past while projecting her pain onto others. 

  • Rita

Rita is the stereotypical Queen Bee of the school. She is a side character who is often remembered for the infamous “Tunnel Scene”. 

  • Jasmine

She is particularly not as important in the first movie. However, she is very crucial to the plot of the sequel where she is a school reporter and further drives the plot.

THE UNDERMATH OF ZEPOTHA

You can further go on the deep dive of Zepotha from the Wiki page itself. But what does it all mean? Is it all a part of a big joke on the internet or is it a part of something deep?

Preceding generations often refer to Gen-Z as a lazy, self-centered, whiny, and annoying generation. They are “unoriginal” and their art is trashy. Having their childhood ages and the technology boom collided with each other, they have basically grown with speedy texting fingers and living under the roof of social media.
But what we miss is that they didn’t choose to be voluntarily regarded in this environment.. Being raised midst of the technological ladder, economic repressions, and a cold diplomatic environment, social media is their cover. A safe space for them, a place they are familiar with the most. They are basically the first true digital natives.

They are the first to experience civilization and take a different turn into the digital route. And they have chosen to cope with it in their own, peculiar and quirky manner. Even in the context of the movie Zepotha, this is Gen-Z’s way of taking back control. The control of what is said, what is done, and how it’s done? All in their own silent digital coup. 

All in all this generation deals with its own turbulence and beneath this angry, lazy, disrespectful facade lies a generation trying to adapt and ramble their way to the next step of civilization.
